The month of August is all about The Dance, Fleetwood Mac’s highly successful comeback tour. The tour had a relatively short run from September 17, 1997 to November 30, 1997 with each show averaging just over $826,000. Not bad for a band who many thought would never tour again. The album The Dance was released August 19, 1997 a full week after the MTV world premiere on August 12, 1997 – and the world would never be the same. Many of us who grew up with the Mac in the ’70s were thrilled to see our favorite band back where they belonged. The album shot to the top of the charts within 2 weeks and was #1 by September 6, 1997. It sold over 3 million copies by January 27, 1998. And became the 5th ‘best selling live album of all time’. Eventually selling over 5 million copies by 2000. The video version of The Dance was on the charts for 202 weeks by 2001 and landed in the #20 position by August 11th that same year. Because of The Dance’s success Fleetwood Mac’s Greatest Hits enjoyed a very long 432 week run on the charts by August 11, 2001 in the #41 spot. Quite possibly THE shining moment for Stevie was her live version of Silver Springs receiving the Grammy Nomination for ‘Best Performance by Duo or Group with Vocals’ the following year. The Mac was definitely back and Stevie was definitely ‘happening’.
